THE FLATS – With the rain starting to fall just before first pitch and continuing to shower the field constantly for the next hour, head coach Danny Hall and the coaching staff halted game two of the White vs. Gold World Series on Sunday afternoon with the contest to be resumed on Tuesday afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium.

With a six run third inning, the Gold Team will take a 6-0 lead into the resumed game on Tuesday.

The two starting pitchers cruised through the first two innings until the visitors in gold opened up the top of the third with a double down the left field line by Xzavion Curry, a walk to designated hitter Joseph Mannelly and an infield single over the pitcher’s head off the bat of outfielder Nick Wilhite to load the bases with no outs.

Freshman outfielder Colin Hall drew a bases loaded walk to score the first run of the game before fellow newcomer Michael Guldberg doubled to left center field to clear the bases and put the Gold Team on top at 4-0.

Senior Patrick Wiseman and sophomore Kyle McCann added RBI singles later in the inning to push the Gold Team’s lead out to 6-0 midway through the third.

Left-handed hurler Connor Thomas was superb on the mound for the Gold Team, as the sophomore threw 3.0 hitless innings with three strikeouts in the start.

Game two will pick back up in the top of the fourth inning on Tuesday afternoon with the Gold Team leading the White Team 6-0.

The third and final game of the three-game series is still slated for a 4 p.m. start time on Friday, Nov. 17. The White Team currently leads the series at 1-0.
