THE FLATS – Freshman Francesca Pan was recognized Monday for her outstanding performance in the Junkanoo Jam, earning ACC Rookie of the Week as announced by the ACC. The weekly awards were voted on by members of the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Pan, tabbed Tournament MVP of the Junkanoo Jam, helped Tech to a 2-0 record last week and the Freeport Division title, averaging 20.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. The Bassno del Grappa, Italy native shot 50.0 percent from the field and 88.9 percent from the charity stripe as Tech upended Dayton and Mizzou to claim the title.
Pan opened the tournament pouring in a career-best 25 points in Tech’s come-from-behind-win over Dayton. She hit a career-best four treys and seven free throws en route to setting a career-high offensively. Pan followed that performance chipping in 15 points and swiping three steals in 23 minutes as the Yellow Jackets held on for a 72-70 victory over Mizzou to close out the tournament.
The Yellow Jacket is averaging 12.8 ppg through Tech’s six games, tying for the team-lead offensively. She has started all six contests and is leading Tech from three-point range, shooting 40.6 percent from long distance.
The weekly ACC honor marks the first for Pan. It also marks the first Rookie of the Week honor for the Jackets since the 2013-14 season.
Georgia Tech returns to action opening a four-game homestand this week welcoming Michigan on Thursday at 7 p.m. for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The game will be available on ACC Network Extra.
