Duncan, Stowers, Williams Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

ATLANTA – David Duncan, Evan Stowers and Jacqua Williams were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, March 20, 2007.

Duncan, a sophomore from New Richmond, Ohio, helped Georgia Tech to its first shutout of the season and the first complete-game shutout for the Yellow Jackets in three years. He tossed a career-long 9.0 innings and struck out a career-high 10 batters. Duncan improved to 4-2 on the season with the win, and has earned a win in four of his last five appearances (all starts). Opponents are hitting just .250 against him on the season.

Stowers, a junior from Independence, Ky., earned All-America honors for the second consecutive season on the platform with a score of 289.25 in the consolation finals, finishing 15th overall of the 2007 NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships. Stowers also placed 22nd overall on the one-meter board with a score of 294.85 and 25th on the three-meter board with a score of 310.50 at the NCAA Championships.

Williams, a sophomore from Seattle, Wash., led the Tech women’s basketball team to its first NCAA tournament victory by hitting the go-ahead basket with 2.5 seconds remaining on the clock against DePaul. Williams had 10 points, a career-high three blocks and six steals in the win over 55-54, win over Blue Demons. In the second round match-up against second-seeded Purdue, Williams recorded four steals to finish with schools single-season record. Williams finished the season with 95 steals, passing Kisha Ford’s 15 year record of 92 set in 1992.
