Dixon Tabbed ACC Freshman of the Week

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball freshman forward Elizabeth Dixon was named Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Week for the third time this season on Monday. Dixon led Tech offensively to a 2-0 week.

The Memphis, Tenn., native posted two 20-plus-point outings over the week to lead Tech to victories over Pittsburgh and Wake Forest. Dixon opened the week scoring 21 points against Pitt, connecting on a personal-best 9-of-10 from the free throw line.

Dixon followed that performance by leading Tech with 22 points in a win at Wake Forest on Sunday to match her career-high. The freshman was nearly perfect from the floor, connecting on 7-of-10 field goals and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe.

For the week, Dixon averaged 21.5 points per game, shot 56.5 percent from the field (13-23) and was nearly perfect at the free throw line with an 89.5-percent (17-19) efficiency. Dixon is third on the team in scoring on the season, averaging 10.8 points, and is second on the team in rebounding, securing 6.6 per game on average.

This marks the third weekly honor for Dixon who was previously named Co-Freshman of the Week on Nov. 19 and Jan. 14. Fellow classmate Elizabeth Balogun has earned the honor four times on the season.

Georgia Tech returns to McCamish Pavilion on Sunday, February 17 to host Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. for its annual #Play4Kay Pink Game. The game will be televised on RSN (Fox Sports South in Atlanta).
