THE FLATS – A pair of Georgia Tech women’s basketball signees, Elizabeth Balogun and Elizabeth Dixon, were named to the American Family Insurance All-USA Tennessee Girls Basketball First Team. Additionally, Balogun was tabbed the Player of the Year.
Balogun, a 6-1 guard from Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Chattanooga, Tenn., averaged 18.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.3 blocks per game during her senior campaign. The Nigerian native helped the Hawks to a 26-3 record and a trip to the GEICO Nationals finals.
Dixon, a 6-5 forward/center from Ridgeway High School in Memphis, Tenn., also picked up first team honors after averaging 24.6 points, 14.6 rebounds, 6.0 blocks, 1.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game as a senior. Dixon was a Class AAA Miss Basketball finalist.
Earlier this year, the pair competed in the McDonald’s All American Game at Philips Arena in Atlanta and also participated in the Jordan Brand Classic in Brooklyn, N.Y. at the Barclays Center. Balogun and Dixon capped their senior seasons being named Naismith Trophy National High School All-Americans.
Balogun and Dixon were two signees of a five-member Georgia Tech recruiting class in the fall that was ranked No. 7 according to Prospects Nation. The Jackets recently added Kondalia Montgomery during the spring signing period.
