THE FLATS – Nearly 17 hours after play was halted Friday night because of torrential rain, the 18th-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets took the series opener with a 3-2 win Saturday afternoon.

In the bottom of the 8th, freshman Carter Hall scored the eventual game-winning run on a wild pitch that gave the Jackets their 20th win of the season. Freshman Micah Carpenter (2-0) earned his second win, pitching one scoreless inning of relief, while junior Matthew Gorst (6) punched his sixth save of the season.

Georgia Tech (20-5, 6-4 ACC) and Duke (12-14, 2-8 ACC) will play game 2 of the series at 4 p.m. The game will be streamed on RamblinWreck.com and WREK 91.1 FM.
