Yellow Jackets Post 10-2 Record On Successful Second Day At Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team had a successful second day with a 10-2 record in singles play at the Schwartz Tennis Challenge hosted by the Purdue Boilermakers at the Schwartz Tennis Center on the Purdue campus.

Seniors Lynn Blau and Viet Ha Ngo, along with sophomore Muriel Wacker each posted a 2-0 record on Saturday.

The 124th-ranked Blau defeated Purdue freshman Daniela Vidal, 6-3, 7-5, and dispatched of Iowa rookie Ellen Silver 6-3, 6-2 in her second match of the day. Ngo, ranked No. 44, earned two tough three-set wins on the day. She battled past Boilermaker sophomore Mara Schmidt, 6-3, 3-6, 10-7, and downed Hawkeye freshman Katie Zordani, 7-5, 6-7 (2), 10-3.

Wacker fought past Purdue junior Gisella Pere, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6, before cruising past Iowa sophomore Christina Harazin, 6-2, 6-1, in the afternoon.

Tech senior Jillian O’Neill, ranked No. 21, defeated the Boilermakers Jennifer Rabot, ranked No. 106, 2-6, 6-4, 10-5, and Yellow Jacket sophomore Alex Anghelescu capped a successful run against the hosts with a 6-4, 6-4, win over Purdue junior Imogen Golder.

Senior Caroline Lilley, ranked No. 69, played from the top spot against Iowa and easily moved past Hawkeye freshman Shelby Talcott, 6-1, 6-1. In her only match of the day, Jacket rookie Jasmine Minor earned a big 6-4, 6-3 win over Iowa senior Cassandra Escobar.

The Yellow Jackets will begin the spring season with the Michigan Invitational on Jan. 14-16.
