ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (9-1) will conclude its three-game road trip when it travels across town to face Georgia State (2-6) on Saturday, Dec. 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET at the GSU Sports Arena.
Fans can catch all the action on WREK radio (91.1 FM/www.wrek.org), Georgia Tech women’s basketball’s flagship station.
“Georgia State is a very well coached team,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “We know that it will be a battle. Our kids are playing with a lot of poise and confidence. This is our third road game in a week so it will be important that we prepare ourselves mentally for the challenge.”
This will mark the 31st meeting between the Yellow Jackets and the Panthers. Tech holds a 19-11 advantage but has won the last eight games and 13 of the last 14 meetings between the two schools.
Tech is 12-3 all-time against Colonial Athletic Association opponents including two straight wins over the Panthers since they joined the CAA at the beginning of the 2005-06 season.
Tech returns to Georgia after sweeping through Mississippi earlier this week. The Jackets defeated Mississippi State, 70-58, on Sunday and then dropped Mississippi Valley State, 79-67, on Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Janie Mitchell has been stellar for the Jackets, averaging nearly 23 points and eight rebounds over the last four games. Due to her play, Mitchell was named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week each of the last two weeks. She is the only Yellow Jacket to ever garner the honor two weeks in a row.
Georgia Tech will take a week off for the Christmas holiday before returning home to host the Georgia Tech Hotel & Conference Center Holiday Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 29. Tech will face Chicago State in the opening game with tip-off scheduled for noon. Harvard will face Kennesaw State in the second game of the tournament, immediately following the Tech game.
