DYNAMIC DEBUT
Freshman Kaela Davis continued the remarkable start to her freshman season against the Lady Vols by scoring 28 points. Davis leads the Yellow Jackets and all ACC rookies with 22.7 ppg. She ranks second in the conference in scoring and is tied for 11th in rebounding (8.7 rpg). She is also tied for the lead in the ACC for 3-pointers made with a team-high 13.
Davis, a native of Suwanee, Ga., led the team in scoring in the first three games of the season. She recorded back-to-back double-doubles in her first two career games. Against Coppin State, Davis scored 20 points, and grabbed a team-high 11 boards. Just two days later, Davis scored 20 points yet again and had 10 rebounds against Western Carolina.
Davis’ back-to-back double-doubles marked the first time a Tech player has had a double-double in consecutive games since senior Tyaunna Marshall accomplished the feat against NC State on Jan. 27, 2013 (16 pts., 11 rebs.) and Wake Forest on Jan. 31, 2013 (28 pts., 17 reb.). Her 20 points against Coppin State were the most by a freshman in her first career game at Georgia Tech under head coach MaChelle Joseph.
DOUBLE DOUBLE-DOUBLES
Both freshman Kaela Davis and sophomore Roddreka Rogers each recorded double-doubles against Western Carolina. While Davis had 20 points and 10 rebounds, Rogers scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. It was Rogers first double-double of the season and only second of her career. Rogers’ 10.0 rpg is tied for seventh in the conference.
The double-figure rebounding effort of both Davis and Rogers marked the first time two Jackets had pulled down double-figure rebounds since Rogers (11) and senior Tyaunna Marshall (10) did just that at Wake Forest on Feb. 21, 2013.
DOUBLE-FIGURE SCORING
Georgia Tech has three players that are averaging double-figures in scoring. Freshman Kaela Davis leads the way with 22.7 ppg. Sophomore Aaliyah Whiteside is averaging 13.0 ppg while junior Sydney Wallace is averaging 12.0 ppg.
LEADERS FROM BEHIND THE ARC
Tech leads the ACC in 3-point field goal percentage (30-for-72, 41.7 percent). The Jackets’ 30 made 3-pointers rank third in the ACC. The Yellow Jackets are averaging 10.0 3-pointers made per game.
RECORD BOOK WATCH
Tyaunna Marshall has 1,537 career points, which ranks eighth on Georgia Tech’s all-time list. Marshall needs 419 points to become Tech’s all-time leading scorer. Kisha Ford (1994-97) holds the record with 1,955 points. Marshall is one of just five Yellow Jackets all-time with at least 1,500 career points and 600 career rebounds.
Marshall needs just 20 more points to tie Joyce Pierce (1991-93) for seventh place at 1,557.
JOSEPH VS. THE RANKED
Since MaChelle Joseph took the reigns of the Yellow Jacket program prior to the 2003-04 season, Tech has beaten 10 ranked opponents.
All-time, Georgia Tech has 32 wins over AP ranked teams with eight of those coming on the road.
OFF TO NYC
The Jackets head to Brooklyn for Thanksgiving for the LIU Turkey Classic. On Nov. 29, Tech faces Southern Utah at 4:30 p.m. On Nov. 30, the Jackets will face either host LIU Brooklyn of McNeese State at 2 or 4:30 p.m.
