Georgia Tech women’s basketball continues this two-game season-opening homestand with a matinee on Saturday against Furman. The Yellow Jackets and Paladins tip-off at 2 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
Tech looks to continue its winning ways, having opened the 2023-24 season with a commanding win over Coastal Carolina, 83-53, last Monday. Four Yellow Jackets scored in double-figures, led by Kayla Blackshear and Tonie Morgan with 24 and 20 points, respectively. The 20-point outings marked career-highs for both Blackshear and Morgan. All 13 players took the floor against Coastal Carolina, giving Tech’s six newcomers their debuts in the Gold and White.
Furman comes into the contest also victorious in its season-opener, defeating UNC Asheville, 71-61. Tate Walters led the way for the Paladins with a game-high 21 points, followed by Jada Session with 16 points. Furman won the battle on the glass, 53-34, and shot 44 percent from the field.
Georgia Tech and Furman are meeting for the 13th time in program history on Saturday with the Jackets leading the all-time series, 10-2. Tech has won the last six contests, dating back to 1990, including last year’s 82-41 triumph in McCamish Pavilion.
Competitive Drive Initiative Turn 2
Looking to build on the success of last year’s Competitive Drive Initiative, Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech Foundation and Georgia Tech athletics are partnering once again to launch Competitive Drive Initiative Turn 2. CDI Turn 2 has a goal of raising $2.5 million in new gifts to the Alexander-Tharpe Fund’s Athletic Scholarship Fund by Dec. 31, and Georgia Tech and the Georgia Tech Foundation will match eligible gifts to accelerate the impact for Tech athletics. Like last year, not only will gifts to CDI Turn 2 be matched, but so will the contributor’s benefits in the way of A-T Fund giving levels and priority points.
