Women’s Basketball Visits Georgia for Sunday Matinee

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team plays its lone road game of December on Sunday at in-state rival Georgia. Tip is slated for 1 p.m. in the Stegeman Coliseum.

STARTING FIVE
1. Georgia Tech plays its lone road game during the month of December visiting in-state rival Georgia for a Sunday matinee. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network.
2. The Jackets and Lady Bulldogs have a storied history, meeting for the 40th time in program history on Sunday. Tech seeks its first-ever win in Athens, while Georgia looks to improve to 17-0 at home against the Jackets.
3. The Jackets are coming off their sixth win at home this season after defeating UT Arlington last weekend. Francesca Pan posted her second-straight 20-point outing, leading the Jackets with 21 points. Freshman guard Kierra Fletcher pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds.
4. Georgia Tech is led in scoring this season by two players averaging double-figures: Francesca Pan (14.5 ppg) and Zaire O’Neil (10.1 ppg). Elo Edeferioka continues to lead the Jackets on the boards, pulling down 5.9 rpg.
5. Head coach MaChelle Joseph is in her 15th season on The Flats and carries an all-time career record of 283-178. Joseph is the all-time winningest coach in program history and holds the highest winning percentage in Yellow Jacket history at 60.9 percent.

-Mark the first-ever win in Athens for Georgia Tech in series history dating back to 1974-75
-Mark the 284th win of Coach Joseph’s career
-Be the 659th all-time program win in Georgia Tech women’s basketball history and move the Yellow Jackets to 659-604 overall

LAST TIME THEY MET
Georgia Tech and Georgia met in Atlanta last season with the Jackets taking a 52-45 decision over the Lady Bulldogs. Zaire O’Neil led Tech with a game-high 20 points and was the only Jacket in double-figures. UGA won the battle on the glass, 42-33, but Tech converted 27 Lady Bulldog turnovers into 25 points. Both teams shot just over 30.0 percent from the field with Tech shooting 33.3 percent (19-57) compared to UGA’s 32.0 percent (16-50). The win marked the fifth in program history over Georgia and first since 2010. Tech head coach MaChelle Joseph has led Georgia Tech to four of the five wins over Georgia since taking over the program in 2003.
