Georgia Tech faces a pair of tough opponents over the Thanksgiving holiday, taking part in the Cancun Challenge. The Yellow Jackets open the tournament on Thursday against Creighton before facing New Mexico on Friday. Tech carries a 4-0 record into the tournament having just upended Kennesaw State last Sunday, 77-38. Three Jackets scored 14 points or more against the Owls as Tech shot a season-best 58.0 percent from the field in the win.

Creighton comes into the tournament with a 3-1 record, having dropped only one game this season to date, a 65-53 defeat to Green Bay. Three Bluejays are averaging double-figures on the season led by Lauren Jensen and Morgan Maly with 17.3 and 17.0 points per game averages, respectively. Creighton just recently dropped out of the nation’s top 25, opening the season No. 22/23 preseason and No. 22/24 after week one. Georgia Tech and Creighton are meeting on the hardwood for the first time in program history in the Cancun Challenge.

New Mexico plays its first of two games in Cancun against Montana State on Thursday, carrying a 4-0 mark into the tournament. The Lobos have been off since last Wednesday when they defeated Texas A&M-Commerce, 75-74. New Mexico is led offensively by Nyah Wilson who is averaging 16.5 points per game. She is one of four Lobos offensively averaging double-figures on the young season, while Charlotte Kohl is leading UNM on the boards with a 10.0 rebounds per game average. Georgia Tech is also meeting New Mexico for the first time in program history.

Competitive Drive Initiative Turn 2

Looking to build on the success of last year’s Competitive Drive Initiative, Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech Foundation and Georgia Tech athletics are partnering once again to launch Competitive Drive Initiative Turn 2. CDI Turn 2 has a goal of raising $2.5 million in new gifts to the Alexander-Tharpe Fund’s Athletic Scholarship Fund by Dec. 31, and Georgia Tech and the Georgia Tech Foundation will match eligible gifts to accelerate the impact for Tech athletics. Like last year, not only will gifts to CDI Turn 2 be matched, but so will the contributor’s benefits in the way of A-T Fund giving levels and priority points. To learn more and contribute online, visit atfund.org/turn2.
