Williams and Ruiz Win on Day 1 of GT Invitational

Day One Results 

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech track and field hosted day one of the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday at the George C. Griffin Track, highlighted by first-place finishes by Jeanine Williams and Amy Ruiz. Competition continues on The Flats on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Williams started the day off on the right foot for the Jackets, taking first in the women’s 100m hurdles and tying her career-best time of 13.17. Williams also finished third among collegiate competitors in the 100m dash with a career-best time of 11.84. Kenya Collins and Raven Stewart notched personal records in the 110m hurdles with times of 13.47 and 13.69, respectively. Dasia Smith took third among collegiate competitors in the women’s long jump with a career-best leap of 5.80m.

Ruiz raced to a first-place finish in the 1500m, clocking a career-best time of 4:31.14. Haley Anderson, Charlotte Stephens and Hailey Gollnick also registered career-best times in the 1500m. The Jackets closed out the day with career-best finishes in the 5000m by Ellen Flood, Rebecca Dow and Juanita Pardo.

Avery Bartlett impressed with a second-place finish in the 1500m with a career-best time of 3:46.87. Seven other Jackets set new personal records in the 1500m: Frank Pittman (3:50.34), Alex Grady (3:51.70), Nahom Solomon (3:52.21), Matthew Munns (3:52.86), Christian Bowles (3:52.08), Jack Bordoni (3:56.62) and Tanner Shaw (3:55.99). Sam Costa raced a career-best time in the 3000m steeplechase of 9:29.94.
