ATLANTA – Another spring of Georgia Tech baseball is well underway and I thought it might be good to breakout the broadcasts, both radio and television, for the Jackets as the season moves forward. There are some traditional outlets, but also some new ones for the first time as well.
WREK-FM CONTINUES LONG ASSOCIATION WITH TECH BASEBALL. FIVE GAMES CARRIED ON “790 THE ZONE” THIS SPRING
For many years, Georgia Tech’s student radio station, WREK-FM (91.1), has been the home for Yellow Jacket baseball. Again this season, their coverage will include over 30 regular season games. Brian Ryea is the lead announcer on WREK-FM. Ric Tyran and Jason Wang join Brian on many of the broadcasts. Veteran WREK announcer Richard Musterer will also appear on the schedule this spring.
WREK will also be the primary outlet for Tech’s participation in the ACC Baseball Tournament this May.
For the first time since 1997, Georgia Tech baseball will be carried commercially in Atlanta this spring. “790 The Zone” has agreed to carry five regular season games with the option for selected post-season games as well.
This schedule, which is also being offered to affiliates around the state, includes: Saturday, April 19, against Wake Forest (7 p.m.). Sunday, April 27, at Clemson (2 p.m.). Saturday, May 3, versus Florida State (1 p.m.). Thursday, May 15, against NC State (7 p.m.) and Saturday, May 17, against NC State (1:30 p.m.). I will be joined by Randy Carroll on these games.
Don’t forget that all broadcasts, both on WREK-FM and “790 The Zone”, will be available to download at www.ramblinwreck.com.
CSS JOINS FOX SPORTS NET SOUTH AS T.V. PARTNER
For the first time ever, CSS (Comcast Sports Southeast) has agreed to broadcast selected games this spring. CSS (www.css-sports.com) can be seen throughout the southeast. Check their website for the cable system in your area. CSS’s Matt Stewart and Randy Carroll are handling the play-by-play and analysis on these broadcasts.
With already three games carried, CSS will carry the Georgia Southern game in Atlanta on April 15, followed by the Georgia game at Russ Chandler on April 23.
The Jackets appearances on Fox Sports Net South began last Saturday in Chapel Hill against North Carolina as part of the ACC package. Randy Carroll will join me on Friday, April 18, as the Jackets host Wake Forest. Other games set for Fox Sports Net South include, Friday, April 25, at Clemson, Friday, May 2, and Saturday, May 3, against Florida State, as part of the ACC schedule. The Jackets schedule with Fox Sports Net concludes on Tuesday night, May 13, when the Jackets meet Georgia at Turner Field in Atlanta.
CSS, ISP SPORTS AND GEORGIA TECH BEGIN RELATIONSHIP
With their debut of the Tech baseball package, fans will start to see more and more Yellow Jacket sports on CSS. ISP Sports, which is the multi-media rights holder for Georgia Tech athletics, has agreed to allow CSS to carry selected athletic events in the future. Baseball is just the start of the coverage, but hopefully things are coming together so that next fall, there will be comprehensive coverage of not only Tech football, but other sports as well. There are some exciting plans for the future between the three parties.
Check the CSS website for additional details next fall or here at www.ramblinwreck.com.
