Weather Postpones Carpet Capital Collegiate

Sept. 15, 2004

ATLANTA – Weather concerns from the anticipated arrival of Hurricane Ivan have forced postponement of the Carpet Capital Collegiate golf tournament this weekend in Rocky Face, Ga. The event, which features host Georgia Tech and 12 of the nation’s top 25 teams at The Farm golf club, has been rescheduled for Nov. 5-7.

The forecast for this weekend includes heavy rains for Friday and Saturday, the first two scheduled days of competition.

All 18 teams in the field, which includes Tech, Georgia and defending champion Florida, the nation’s top three teams in the Golf World magazine preseason ranking, are expected to be able to participate on the rescheduled dates. The rest of the field includes Auburn, Augusta State, Clemson, Duke, East Tennessee State, New Mexico, NC State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Southern California, Tennessee, Texas, Texas Christian, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest.

That means Tech, which finished fifth in the 2004 NCAA Championship and has its top six players back for this season, will open its fall schedule at the Golfweek/Ping Preview, Sept. 26-27, at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md.
