Various Georgia Tech sports news and notes from the morning of May 21:
Georgia Tech is one of just 10 schools to be ranked in the top 25 in both softball and baseball (complete list below)… this is using the ESPN.com polls for both sports… thanks to Dan Goldberger for researching.
Posting a photo this morning of Vance Walker from a recent Atlanta Falcons’ practice session at Flowery Branch… it’s odd to see V-Dub wearing something other than #99, but it’s even more odd to see him wearing black and red… thanks to Reggie Roberts and the Falcons PR staff, who always take care of us.
Former Yellow Jacket linebacker James Liipfert was recently hired by the New England Patriots as a scouting assistant… a pretty good job for someone who just graduated from college… former Tech tight end John Paul Foschi recently signed with the Oakland Raiders… Foschi played with the Raiders from 2004-06 and previously with the Jetes, Broncos and Vikings.
Athlon has Georgia Tech at No. 22 in its preseason college football poll… ESPN.com’s Heather Dinich has a notebook item on Dan Voss this morning on her blog… she’ll be interviewing Voss today, so perhaps a story on the senior center later.
The Tech baseball team hopes to rebound from a loss to 16th-ranked Miami today when the Yellow Jackets play Boston College on Day Two of the ACC Baseball Tournament in Durham, N.C… speaking of baseball, freshman Matt Simonds will represent Georgia Tech at the June 1 health fair (Global Learning Center in Technology Square)… Simonds will demonstrate how simple it is to operate a External Defibrillator (AED)… he will also share the stage with Larry King and get his photo taken with the talk show host.
