THE FLATS – Georgia Tech track and field send sophomore Avery Bartlett to Sacramento, Calif. to compete in the USATF 2017 Outdoor Championships while Tyson Spears and Brianna Hayden compete at the junior event. The outdoor championships are held at Sacramento State’s Hornet Stadium June 22-25.
Bartlett continues his standout sophomore season at the outdoor championships, competing in the men’s 800m. He will race in the first round at 5 p.m. PT on Thursday, June 22. Bartlett competed in the 800m at the NCAA Championships, finishing 15th for second team all-American honors. He qualified for the outdoor championships with his school record time of 1:47.32 that he raced at the 2017 ACC Indoor Championships.
Tyson Spears will race in the junior men’s 100m at 1:35 p.m. PT on Friday, June 23. Spears put up a career-best time of 10.45 in the 100m at the Tom Jones Memorial to qualify. Brianna will compete in the junior women’s 200m at 3:42 p.m. PT on Saturday, June 24. She qualified with a time of 23.84 at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.
The trio is looking to qualify for the IAAF World Championships later this summer.
