Three Jackets Competing in Grub Mart intercollegiate

ATLANTA – While Georgia Tech’s top five golfers get a break from action until mid-April, William Miller, Seth Reeves and Minghao Wang will get some extensive competition Monday and Tuesday at the 19th annual Grub Mart Intercollegiate at Silver Lakes Golf Club in Glencoe, Ala.

The 54-hole event is hosted by Jacksonville State and includes 14 teams and several individuals. Silver Lakes is a 7,040-yard, par 72 course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama. Tech’s players all will compete as individuals.

Miller is the only one of the three Yellow Jackets who has seen action in the spring, having competed as an individual at the Amer Ari Invitational in early February (14-over-par 230). The junior from Venetia, Pa., also competed in the United States Collegiate Championship in the fall (T53, 11-over 227).

Reeves played in the Brickyard Collegiate and the USCC in the fall, and the red-shirt freshman from Duluth, Ga., earned a tie for 16th at the Brickyard with an even-par score of 216. Wang has played only in the Brickyard, tying for 61st at 13-over 229. The junior from Reunion, Fla., also competed for his native China in the World Amateur Team Championship in the fall.

TOURNAMENT UPDATE – The Grub Mart Collegiate will consist of 36 holes Monday ant 18 holes Tuesday. No live scoring is available. The teams competing include Armstrong Atlantic, Austin Peay State, Belmont, Columbus State, Eastern Kentucky, High Point, Morehead State, Nicholls State, Samford, Stetson, Tennessee-Martin, Tennessee Tech, Utah Valley.

TECH UPDATE – Senior John-Tyler Griffin (17-under 267) and freshman Ollie Schniederjans (9-under 275) finished second and seventh, respectively, at the Azalea Invitational, a prestigious 72-hole amateur event that was held last weekend in Charleston, S.C.

UP NEXT – Tech will host the Yellow Jacket Invitational April 16-17 at its home course, the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta. The final tune-up for the Jackets before the Atlantic Coast Conference championship the following week, the tournament has a small field which includes Georgia State, Maryland, Troy, UAB and UNC Wilmington.
