ATLANTA – Georgia Tech junior LF Brandon Thomas and junior 3B Sam Dove have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday.
The inclusion of Thomas and Dove on the Academic All-District Team marks the ninth-straight year a Georgia Tech baseball player has received mention. Both student-athletes, who each earned their first career Academic All-District honors, are now eligible for Academic All-America consideration.
Tech was one of just 15 Division-I school nationwide this season with multiple representation on an Academic All-District Team.
Thomas, an Atlanta native, is enjoying a career year and currently leads the club and is fifth in the ACC with a .363 average. Thomas, who also leads Tech in runs (45), doubles (13), triples (5), walks (26) and on-base percentage (.471), has reached base in 46 consecutive games dating back to 2011. The management major holds a 3.66 cumulative GPA and was named to the Academic All-ACC Team last season.
Dove, who is one of just two Yellow Jackets to start every game this season, is hitting .350 with 12 doubles, two home runs, 20 RBI and eight stolen bases — all career highs. The Brentwood, Tenn. native held a 17-game hitting streak earlier this season, which ranks as the longest hitting streak at Tech since 2009. Dove maintains a 3.42 GPA in polymer, textile & fiber engineering and was an Academic All-ACC pick in 2011.
Nominations and voting for the All-America programs are conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
One Academic All-District team is chosen in each district, with those on the All-District first teams placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
