Tech Track & Field Concludes Competition at Niswonger Invitational

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Junior All-American Chaunte Howard won her 16th straight collegiate women’s high jump competition with a NCAA Automatic qualifying clear of 6’2″ to lead the Georgia Tech women’s track and field team at the Niswonger Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Senior Brian Ford led the men’s track and field team with a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash with an indoor season-best time of 48.22.

Junior All-American Andriane Lapsley tallied a first-place finish for the Yellow Jackets in the women’s 60-meter dash with a time of 7.58. The San Antonio, Texas, native posted a time of 24.55 in the women’s 200-meter dash to finish in third place.

Sophomore All-American Ashlee Kidd captured the women’s 400-meter dash with a time of 55.43. Seniors Zeb Sion and Jonathan Spillaman finished first and second in the men’s shot put with marks of 58’2″ and 54’5.25″, respectively.

Senior All-American Dana Rogers finished second in the women’s 60-meter high hurdles with a NCAA Provisional time of 8.28, while freshman Shantia Moss tied an indoor season-best time of 8.43 in the 60m hurdles to post her second NCAA Provisional time of the season and finished in fifth place amongst professional athletes. In the college division of the 60m hurdles, sophomore Fatmata Fofanah finished second with a season-best time of 8.51.

Senior Neil McDonagh posted a time of 4:14.61 in the men’s mile to finish in fourth place for the Yellow Jackets. Junior Chase Sasser tied an indoor season-best mark in the pole vault with a clear of 14’1.25″.

Racing in the unseeded women’s mile race for Tech were sophomores Mary Chind and Ann Armsby. Chind tallied an indoor personal-record time of 5:12.06 to finish third, while Armsby finished fourth with a time of 5:14.41.

The women’s Distance Medley Relay team finished second with a season-best time of 12:07.98. The Rambling Wreck men’s 4×400-meter relay team posted an indoor season-best time of 3:14.00 to finish in second place. That time currently ranks first in the Atlantic Coast Conference this indoor season.

The Jackets will travel to Clemson, S.C. or Lexington, Ky., next weekend for the Clemson Invitational or McCraven Memorial, Jan. 28-29.
