Tech To Host NCAA Baseball Regional

Georgia Tech has been selected to host one of 16 regional tournaments this weekend in the opening round of the NCAA Baseball Championship. The NCAA Atlanta Regional will be held Friday through Sunday, June 4-6, at Russ Chandler Stadium on the Tech campus.

The 64-team NCAA field, including the three other teams that will join Tech in the NCAA Atlanta Regional, will be announced Monday at 12 noon ET, live on ESPN2.

Game times for the NCAA Atlanta Regional will be 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday, followed by 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday’s championship game is slated for 1 p.m., with a second game to follow, if necessary, 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.

Georgia Tech is guaranteed to play its first game on Friday at 7 p.m.

Tournament ticket books for the NCAA Atlanta Regional are on sale now at www.ramblinwreck.com and can be also purchased in person at the Georgia Tech Office, Tuesday through Thursday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., or at the gate, beginning Friday at 1:30 p.m.

Tournament books, including tickets for all seven sessions, are priced at $84 for a reserved chairback seat and $70 for a reserved bench seat between first and third base. Single-game tickets, which are available on on the day of the game, are priced at $12 for a a reserved chairback seat, $10 for a reserved bench seat between first and third base, $8 for a general admission bleacher seat, and $6 for a general admission student ticket.

The winner of the NCAA Atlanta Regional advances to one of eight NCAA Super Regionals, scheduled for June 11-18 on campus sites.

Along with Georgia Tech, 2004 NCAA Regionals will also be hosted by Arkansas, East Carolina (Kinston, N.C.), Cal-State Fullerton, Florida State, Georgia, Louisiana State, Miami, Notre Dame, Oklahoma (Oklahoma City, Okla.), Mississippi, Rice, South Carolina, Stanford, Texas and Virginia.

Tech’s Russ Chandler Stadium, which was rebuilt in 2002 and now seats 4,157, is hosting an NCAA Regional for the third straight year and the sixth time since 1987. Tech has hosted a total of seven NCAA events, including Super Regionals in 2000 and 2002.

Tournament books only are available for advance purchase and are on sale now, on-line at www.ramblinwreck.com or at the Georgia Tech Ticket Office (1.888.TECH.TIX).

Tickets ordered on-line or by phone can picked up at the Georgia Tech Ticket Office, Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., or at the Russ Chandler Stadium Will Call (Gate 3, Third Base Side) Friday beginning at 1:30 p.m.

All single-game tickets must be purchased on the day of the game at the Russ Chandler Stadium ticket booth (cash only). Single-game tickets for both Friday sessions will go on sale beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Parking for the NCAA Atlanta Regional is free of charge and is available in the following areas: Alexander Memorial Coliseum (8th Street off Fowler Street) O’Keefe Parking Lot (6th Street off Fowler Street) Peter’s Parking Deck (Fowler Street at 4th Street)

DIRECTIONS TO RUSS CHANDLER STADIUM AND RECOMMENDED PARKING

Russ Chandler Stadium is located on the Georgia Tech campus at the intersection of Fowler Street and Fifth Street.

From North of Atlanta:

Travelling south on I-75 or I-85, exit at 17th Street/14th Street/10th Street. Continue to 10th Street and turn right (west) on 10th Street. At the first traffic light, turn left onto Fowler Street.

To reach Russ Chandler Stadium: Continue on Fowler Street to the first traffic light, and the stadium is on the right, at the intersection of Fowler and Fifth Street.

To reach AMC Lot: From Fowler Street, turn left onto 8th Street and proceed to AMC Lot

To reach O’Keefe Lot: From Fowler Street, turn left onto 6th Street. Entrance to O’Keefe Lot is on the left.

To reach Peter’s Parking Deck: Continue on Fowler Street through one traffic light (going past Russ Chandler Stadium) and proceed to Peter’s Parking Deck.

From South of Atlanta/Airport/Downtown:

Travelling north on I-75 or I-85, exit at 10th Street and turn left onto 10th Street. Cross the interstate, and at the second traffic light, turn left onto Fowler Street.

To reach Russ Chandler Stadium: Continue on Fowler Street to the first traffic light, and the stadium is on the right, at the intersection of Fowler and Fifth Street.
