Tech Returns for Boston College Series

THE FLATS –  Georgia Tech softball (18-18, 2-10 ACC) will return home to resume ACC play, hosting Boston College (17-17, 1-8 ACC) for its next conference series over the weekend. The Yellow Jackets will open the series against the Eagles on Friday at noon, square off again on Saturday at 3 p.m. and conclude the series on Sunday at noon, all at Mewborn Field.

The series finale will be broadcast live on ACC Network. Games one and two will each appear on ACC Network Extra.

Parking

Parking will be available in the McCamish lot, along Fowler Street and in the Family Housing deck through the weekend.

Promotions

Friday’s series opener has been designated as Professor Appreciation Day, featuring a navy t-shirt giveaway.

Saturday’s game will celebrate Girl Scout Day, including giveaways of popsicles and patches along with a post-game autograph session for girl scouts attending.

Sunday’s finale will be Buzz Bunny Day, featuring a pre-game egg hunt, a chocolate rabbit giveaway and an opportunity for kids to run the bases after the game.

Storylines

  • Georgia Tech most recently outmatched Mercer for its sixth straight victory over the Bears, an 11-3 triumph behind a season-high tying 13 hits.
  • The Yellow Jackets also tallied 11 runs, marking the second-most runs scored on the season and the fourth double-digit run outing this season.
  • The White and Gold have now won five of their six in-state clashes this season and 11 of the last 12 dating back to 2022.
  • Senior hurler Chandler Dennis (11-5) tied her season-high of eight strikeouts in the contest, earning her fourth complete game of the year in the process.
  • Junior first baseman Abby Hughes crushed her third career home run in the outing.
  • Sophomore designated player Emma Minghini also swatted her first double of the season and the fifth of her career in the game.
  • At the dish, four Yellow Jackets came away with multiple hits. Seven different Jackets picked up at least one RBI, and eight donning the White and Gold scored a run or more.
  • The Yellow Jackets have reached double digit triples on the season for the first time since 2014, improving 10 total on the year.
  • Senior catcher Emma Kauf recently went 3-for-4 with four RBI and a pair of doubles against Kennesaw State, moving into a tie with Lindsay Wood (2000-03) for fifth in program history in career doubles with 44 to date.
  • Senior right hander Blake Neleman (5-8) has moved into second all-time in career strikeouts, also becoming the second Yellow Jacket ever to surpass 500 career strikeouts with 511 to date.
  • On top of marching through Tech’s record books in strikeouts, Neleman has picked up a pair of saves this season, moving up to six in her career as she’s now in an eight-way tie for third in program history in career saves.
  • Pitching a gem of a two-hit, complete-game shutout for the win over Kennesaw State, Neleman is now over the century mark in strikeouts this season with 103.
  • The outing was Neleman’s fourth complete game this year and first shutout this season.
  • On the season, Neleman (103) and Dennis (80) have combined for 183 strikeouts.
  • Defense has gone hand in hand with work from the circle this season as the Jackets are second in the ACC and 14th in the NCAA in fielding percentage (.978).
  • Amongst the conference this season, Neleman is third in the ACC with 103 punchouts.
  • Racking up wins as of late, Dennis is now third in the league with 11 victories in the circle.
  • Swatting a career-high third triple on the season against Georgia Southern, Kauf is currently third in the conference in triples per game.

Series Notes

  • Georgia Tech leads Boston College 35-16 in the all-time series.
  • The Yellow Jackets claimed the last series between the two, winning two of three on the road last season, including an extra-inning triumph, 3-1 (11), and a mercy-rule victory, 14-2 (5).
  • Tech also took the last home series against Boston College, winning two of three in 2020.
  • The White and Gold own a 14-7 advantage at home, lead 15-9 in road contests and are undefeated at 6-0 in neutral-site games.
  • Tech dominated the early goings of the all-time series, winning the first 12 matchups. The Jackets followed with 16 straight victories shortly after, resulting in 29 of the first 31 meetings falling in favor of the Jackets.

Standing room only tickets will be sold for $2 each if all other sections are sold out. Georgia Tech students and faculty/staff can receive free admission to regular season home games while seats remain available by showing a valid BuzzCard at the entrance.
