ARLINGTON, Va. (Jan. 24) – With seven position players and its entire starting rotation returning, Stanford earned the No. 1 spot in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN Preseason Top 25 College Baseball Coaches’ Poll. The Cardinal, who tied for third at the 1999 College World Series and finished with a 50-15 record, earned 35 of 42 possible first-place votes and 1,043 total points.
Cal State Fullerton pulled in at No. 2 with one first-place vote and 949 points, followed by Alabama (one first-place vote, 916 points), defending national champion Miami (five, 914), and Florida State (848). The Baseball Weekly/ESPN Top 25 Coaches poll is voted on by 42 Division I head coaches, representing members of the American Baseball Coaches Association in all areas of the USA. The Louisville Slugger trophy will be presented to the winner of the NCAA Division I College World Series.
