Tech Heads to Vanderbilt Invite, Clemson Invite

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech indoor track and field splits into two groups this weekend, heading to the Vanderbilt Invitational and Clemson Invitational on Jan. 19-20.

Joining more than 700 student-athletes in Nashville, Tenn., from 22 teams, the Jackets will go up against No. 9 men’s/No. 20 women’s Alabama, Auburn, Belmont, Connecticut, Furman, Kennesaw State, Maryland, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma, No. 8 women’s Ole Miss, SMU, Southeast Missouri, Southern Illinois, Southern Mississippi, Tulane, UAB, Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky.

In Clemson, S.C., Tech will face off against Clemson, Duke, No. 1/6 Florida, No. 2/3 Georgia, J.C. Smith, No. 18/9 Kentucky, No. 22/23 Penn State, Purdue, No. 8 men’s Virginia Tech

Georgia Tech women are coming off a successful weekend at the Commodore Invitational where the team took the hurdles handily. Led by Jeanine Williams’ first-place 8.18 time in the 60m, Kenya Collins (unattached) finished second with an 8.35 time while Raven Stewart finished third with an 8.44 time. Williams also took second in the 60 meters with a 7.48 time.

Senior Courtney Naser also performed well in the mile, recording a second-place time of 5:19.45 while Marie Repasy finished fourth with a 5:23.36 time.

The Jacket men took the title in the 4x400m relay in an impressive performance, taking first place with a time of 3:13.96. Senior Andreas Ward also impressed with a second-place time in the 60m hurdles (7.95). Tyson Spears recorded a 6.78 third-place time in the prelim 60 meters.

In the 3000m run, Ryan Peck paced Tech with an 8:32.14 time – good enough for fourth place – while Andrew Matson finished two spots back with a time of 8:35.91. Also finishing in the top 5 for their event, senior William Solomon turned in a fifth-place finish in the triple jump, hitting a mark of 13.38 meters.
