Tech Heads to Texas for Charlie Thomas Invitational

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech indoor track and field returns to action this weekend when it heads to College Station, Texas for the Texas A&M Charlie Thomas Invitational on Feb. 2-3.

The Yellow Jackets will join No. 3 men’s/No. 6 women’s Texas A&M, Cincinnati, No. 15 men’s Houston, Rice, South Plains, TCU, UT-Arlington and UT-San Antonio over the course of the two-day meet.

Regionally, Georia Tech men rank No. 10 in the South while the women rank No. 11. Tech will go up against regional top-10 opponents Cincinnati (No. 4 men’s/No. 8 women’s – Great Lakes) and TCU (No. 7 men’s in South Central).

The women’s team at Bob Pollock were paced by Haley Anderson (2:12.86) and Amy Ruiz (2:14.84) after they finished fifth and ninth in the 800 meters. Raven Stewart then ran an 8.31 in the 60m hurdles prelims to finish first and rank fifth this season in the ACC.

Tech’s relay squad of Brianna Hayden, Angelica Henderson, Marinice Bauman and Domonique also turned in a sixth-place time of 3:45.27, while Madeline Hammond finished sixth in the high jump with a leap of 1.62 meters.

The men’s team were led by a first-place finish by Avery Bartlett (1:49.76) in the 800 meters, while Andres Littig (1:51.35) and Gabriel Darosa (1:51.72) finished third and fourth, respectively. Bartlett’s time was second in the ACC this season while Littig’s was fourth.

William Solomon also put on an impressive display when he leapt to a season-best mark of 7.38 meters in the long jump to finish third and rank in the top 10 of the ACC this season. In the triple jump, Preston Smith turned in a distance of 14.53 meters to finish seventh.

The Friday slate of events begin at 3:30 p.m. (eastern) with the pentathlon and heptathlon before the distance events begin at 7:20 p.m. Field events and the distance prelims get underway on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with distance finals beginning at 3 p.m.
