THE FLATS – Georgia Tech outdoor track and field will send more than 25 student-athletes to the Spec Towns Invitational in Athens, Ga. This weekend, competing on April 6-7.
The Yellow Jackets will participate in five events on Friday, competing in the pole vault and javelin for the field and the 1500m, 400m and 200m in the running events. On Saturday, Tech will participate in the 110m hurdles, 400m, 100m 800m, and 200m on the day.
Georgia Tech is coming off a successful weekend in the Florida Relays and Stanford Invite.
Avery Bartlett earned ACC Performer of the Week honors by recording the top time in the nation in the 800m, while Nahom Solomon broke the 46-year-old school record in the 5000m in California. In the relay races in Florida, Ty Brooks, Lionel Jones, Daniel Pietsch and Benjamin Jean took second place in the 4×400, before the 4×800 team of Bennett Hillier, Andres Littig, Jon Lyons and Bartlett finished fifth.
Jeanine Williams and Marinice Bauman performed well in their respective hurdles, both finishing in the top 10, while Nicole Fegans finished second in the 5000m. The women continued to excel when Williams and Bauman joined Kenya Collins and Raven Stewart to set the school record in the shuttle hurdle relay, recording the ninth-fastest time in NCAA history.
Friday’s events for the Jackets begin at noon while Saturday’s are scheduled to begin at 1:05 p.m.
