ATLANTA – Nicholas Thompson fired a six-under-par 66 to leap into fifth place after two rounds at the Atlanta Intercollegiate. Thompson’s score helped move Georgia Tech up three spots into a tie for sixth in the tournament, which is being held at Eagles Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Georgia.
Tech shot a five-under-par 571, to move into a tie for sixth this afternoon after 36-holes. The Jackets were tied for ninth after the first round, but a strong second round by the veteran Thompson helped the Jackets move up the leader board. Tech currently stands 16 shots back of team leader Florida (555).
Clemson’s Jack Ferguson holds the second round lead after carding a nine-under-par 135. Lars Brovold of Alabama shot a 136 to remain tied with Florida’s Camilo Villegas. Jessie Mudd (Florida) and Nicholas Thompson round out the top five.
Thompson entered the second round tied for 27th and then shot his eleventh round under par and his eighth round in the sixties to pace the Jackets. Mike Barbosa shot a three-under-par 141 to finish tied for tenth after two rounds.
Roberto Castro had a one-under-par second round to finish the afternoon at even par for the tournament.
Rounding out the scoring for Tech, were Chan Wongluekiet who finished the day at five over, and Kevin Larsen who shot two rounds of 76 to finish the day eight over par.
