RALEIGH, N.C. – Holding a 1-0 lead into the sixth, a tough-luck sixth led to a four-run eighth and No. 12 Georgia Tech baseball fell 6-1 to NC State on Sunday afternoon at Doak Field.
The Yellow Jackets (16-9, 4-5 ACC) got a terrific start from RHP Marquis Grissom, Jr., who pitched a career-long five innings of shutout work. From there, two seeing-eye singles led to two runs from RHP John Medich (1-1) before four scored against RHP Zach Maxwell in the eighth. LHP Dalton Smith pitched a clean 0.2 innings to close.
At the plate, Georgia Tech was held to just four hits on the day, as Tim Borden II launched another home run, while Stephen Reid, Nicholas Romano and Jack Rubenstein pitched in a hit apiece.
The Wolfpack (14-8, 4-4 ACC) were led by Payton Green, who had two hits, including a three-run homer. RHP Justin Lawson (1-1) got the win, going just an inning of one-hit work.
The Yellow Jackets return home for Bark at the Bark against Charleston Southern on Tuesday, March 29. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.
