Tech Falls 4-1 to No. 8 North Carolina

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis was unable to topple eighth-ranked North Carolina, falling 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.

The Yellow Jackets fell to 5-14 on the season and 1-9 in the ACC while the Tar Heels improved to 17-4 overall and 8-1 in conference.

Getting the lone win for Tech on the day was Andrew Li, who battled through a tough first set victory, 7-6 (5), to move on and take set two, 6-2, over Mac Kiger at the No. 5 position.

Second-ranked William Blumberg downed No. 54 Carlos Divar in singles, 6-4, 6-2, before Phillip Gresk was unable to down No. 100 Robert Kelly, 6-4, 6-3.

In doubles, Simon Soendergaard and Mac Kiger for North Carolina defeated Brandon Freestone and Li, 6-2, before Elijah Melendez and Chris Yun fall to Blaine Boyden and Benjamin Sigouin, 6-4. Tech’s No. 21 tandem of Carlos Divar and Michael Kay led 6-5 over the No. 1 doubles squad in the country of Blumberg and Kelly.

Georgia Tech won’t have any time to rest as it turns around to play No. 20 Duke on Sunday, April 15. First serve is set for noon.
