Tech Comeback Falls Short on Saturday

Box Score (.pdf)

THE FLATS – Despite scoring four runs in the seventh to get on the board, Georgia Tech baseball’s offense couldn’t muster enough to support RHP John Medich’s career start, falling 8-4 on Saturday afternoon at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (25-15, 10-10 ACC) were deadlocked with the Blue Devils (17-22, 7-13 ACC) as Medich (3-3), in his first career ACC start, went 5.1 innings of five-hit baseball before two runs were surrendered in the sixth. Tech then used five relievers out of the bullpen, but were unable to quell Duke’s bats, allowing six more runs over the next three innings.

At the plate, Tech was held to just seven hits and were held to an uncharacteristic 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position. The Jackets were able to plate four in the seventh thanks to a bases-loaded walk by Tres Gonzalez, a balk and a two-run Tim Borden II laser to third base. Chandler Simpson led the way with a 3-for-5 day.

Duke was led by RJ Schreck, who finished 3-for-4 with two RBI. RHP Adam Boucher (3-2) received the win, throwing two innings of two-hit shutout work, with LHP Luke Fox getting the save.

Georgia Tech will face off against Duke in the rubber game on Sunday, April 24. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast nationally on ACC Network and WREK 91.1 FM.
