MISCELLANEOUS NOTES

• Opening tip: won by Georgia Tech (Jackets have won eight of 11 opening tips this season)

TEAM NOTES

• Georgia Tech has used the same starting lineup for the last eight games – Cox, Georges-Hunt, Jorgenson, Mitchell and Stephens.

• Georgia Tech wore navy uniforms for the second time this season, having done so Dec. 3 at Northwestern. Tech is 1-1 wearing navy this season and 5-10 under Brian Gregory.

• Tech trailed at the half for the second time this season and for the second straight game. The Jackets have led in six games, were tied in two.

• Dayton’s 39 first-half points were the most Tech has given up this season (Vanderbilt 33, Georgia 32). Dayton’s 75 points for the game also was a season-high for Tech in points allowed, as was the 14-point margin of defeat.

• Tech has yielded 29 threes in 66 attempts in its three losses this season (Dayton was 10-for-18), 35 in 151 attempts in its eight wins.

• Tech utilized nine players against Dayton, and all of them scored. Brian Gregory has used at least nine players in every game this season, at least 10 in six games.

• Tech out-rebounded Dayton, 39-27, and has won the boards in 10 of 11 games this season (tied Northwestern). Tech fell to 7-3 when out-rebounding the opponent this season and 43-28 when doing so under Brian Gregory.

• Tech had 15 offensive rebounds but converted them into only six second-chance points. Tech ranks 10th nationally in offensive rebounds per game.

• Tech scored fewer than 70 points for the seventh time this season and is 5-2 in those games. Conversely, Tech allowed 70 points for the third time and it 1-2 in those games.

• Tech is 6-46 when trailing at the 5-minute mark of the second half under Brian Gregory, 0-2 this season.

• Tech attempted a season-low 10 free throws and made a season-low seven. The Jackets had been averaging 23.1 attempts and 14.3 made per game.

 

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

Marcus Georges-Hunt reached double digits for the eighth time this season and for the 48th time in 75 career games at Tech.

• Georges-Hunt also corralled a season-high eight rebounds.

• Georges-Hunt went 3-for-3 from the free throw line and has made his last eight attempts in a row. He is 15-for-17 in his last three games (74.5 pct. for the season).

Charles Mitchell recorded his third double-double this season with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and has eight double-doubles in his collegiate career. It was his 21st double-digit scoring effort and 15th double-figure rebound game.

• Tech’s three primary big men (Cox, Mitchell, Sampson) contributed 20 points and committed just two turnovers between them.

Tadric Jackson notched his third double-digit scoring game and second in his last three with 12 points. Included in that was 3-for-3 from the foul line, where he is 78.1 percent for the season.

• Starting point guard Travis Jorgenson had six assists for the second straight game and two turnovers. He has 15 assists and just two turnovers in his last three games, and 30 and 13 for the season. Point guard teammate Josh Heath had 41 assists and 16 turnovers.

• Jorgenson made his ninth start of the season at point guard and has played 25, 24 and 25 minutes in Tech’s last three games. He moved back into the lineup against Marquette after missing the Alabama A&M game with soreness in his surgically repaired knee and coming off the bench against IPFW.

Quinton Stephens has had at least one three-point basket in 10 of 11 games.
