Six Tech Players Drafted by Major League Baseball Teams

ATLANTA – Six juniors and seniors on Georgia Tech’s baseball team were selected in the 2002 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Heading the list is first baseman/outfielder Jason Perry (Jonesboro, Ga.), who was selected in the sixth round by the Toronto Blue Jays. Perry was undrafted coming out of high school.

Junior catcher Tyler Parker (Marietta, Ga.), a sixth-round pick out of high school, was selected in the eighth round by the St. Louis Cardinals.

Senior shortstop/pitcher Victor Menocal (Gainesville, Ga.), who was undrafted as a junior in 2001, was selected in the 15th round by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Junior pitcher Chris Goodman (Marietta, Ga.), a former shortstop who began pitching for the first time at the college level this year, was taken in the 16th round by the Florida Marlins. Goodman was undrafted out of high school.

Junior pitcher Jeff Watchko (Roswell, Ga.), undrafted out of high school, was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 18th round.

Junior pitcher Philip Perry (Marietta, Ga.) was the final Tech player drafted, being selected in the 48th round by the St. Louis Cardinals.
