Season Ticket Sales for Georgia Tech Basketball Surge Past 2016-17

June 23, 2017

THE FLATS – More than four months before the beginning of Georgia Tech’s second season under head coach Josh Pastner, season ticket sales have already surpassed the final tally for the 2016-17 campaign, in which the Yellow Jackets won 21 games and advanced to the championship game of the National Invitation Tournament.

Season tickets are still available for the Jackets’ 18-game home slate that features visits from NCAA Tournament teams Duke, Miami, Notre Dame, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest among the Georgia Tech’s nine home Atlantic Coast Conference games.

Clemson, NC State and Syracuse also visit McCamish Pavilion, where Tech won a program-record 17 games last season. Northwestern (Big Ten/ACC Challenge) and Southeastern Conference foe Tennessee highlight a non-conference schedule which is nearing completion.

“It’s an exciting time for Georgia Tech basketball, to build on the success we enjoyed last season with an accomplished group of veterans coming back and a great group of newcomers,” said Pastner. “For us to be able to get 17 home wins in year one of a major rebuild job was a direct reflection of our crowd and the support they gave us all year long. We have a tremendous atmosphere at McCamish Pavilion. I’ve said it many times, if we can get our fans to buy tickets and persuade others to do the same, we can have one of the best in the ACC and in college basketball.”

The environment created by the passion and energy displayed by the Yellow Jackets in Pastner’s first season did not go unnoticed.

“Tremendous atmosphere. Golly,” said Belmont coach Rick Byrd following Tech’s NIT win on March 19. “We love the opportunity to play in the NIT but, as a lot of you know, sometimes places don’t get as excited about that as they ought to. This place was excited about an NIT game and it was a great atmosphere.”

“I have a lot of Georgia Tech friends, a lot. And this is the most excited I’ve seen them in a long time,” legendary Tech coach Bobby Cremins said last season. “I love everything I’m seeing.”

The Yellow Jackets return their top three scorers – sophomore guard Josh Okogie, senior center Ben Lammers and senior guard Tadric Jackson – from a team which surpassed all pre-season projections by winning 21 games and advancing all the way to the championship game of the NIT. Along the way, the Jackets knocked off No. 9 North Carolina, the eventual national champion, No. 6 Florida State and No. 14 Notre Dame, as well as Boston College, Clemson, Pittsburgh and Syracuse in conference play.

Lammers, who ranked No. 2 in the nation in blocked shots and No. 4 in the ACC in rebounding, earned second-team All-ACC honors and was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Okogie, who accumulated the third-most points of any Tech freshman in program history, was named to the ACC All-Freshman team and to the USA Basketball U19 team that will play in the FIBA World Cup in Cairo, Egypt in early July.

Season ticket packages for the Yellow Jackets’ fifth season in McCamish Pavilion start at less than $20 per game. Purchasing season tickets guarantee patrons the lowest price per game for all home games.

Season ticket holder benefits include the exclusive ticket exchange program, an exclusive season ticket holder event with Coach Pastner and the team, complimentary guest tickets to a non-conference game (game TBD) and more.
