THE FLATS – After two lightning delays and torrential rains, Saturday’s game between No. 25 Georgia Tech and No. 15 Coastal Carolina has been postponed. Play will resume at 11 a.m. Sunday with the Yellow Jackets leading 5-2 in the 4th inning.
Once Saturday’s game is concluded, both head coaches will decide whether to play a seven- or nine-inning game (weather permitting). The second game (originally 1 p.m. Sunday) will begin approximately 30 minutes following the first game or 1 p.m. – whichever time is later.
The first lightning delay began at 4:29 p.m. and lasted 66 minutes. When play resumed at 5:35 p.m., the Yellow Jackets scored five straight runs. Tech scored two runs in the bottom of the 2nd to tie the game at 2-2. The Jackets added three more runs in the 3rd for a 5-2 lead.
Coastal Carolina hit a solo home run in both the 1st and 2nd innings. The Chanticleers had the bases loaded with one out when play was stopped.
The resumption of Saturday’s game and Sunday’s second game will be broadcast on ESPN3 and WREK 91.1 FM.
