KENNESAW, Ga. – No. 12 Georgia Tech baseball used a nine-run seventh inning to take the first game in the series over Kennesaw State, 13-2, on Tuesday night at Stillwell Stadium.
Stephen Reid led the Yellow Jackets (16-5) with three hits, two home runs and a grand slam for six RBI. Andrew Jenkins also remained hot, finishing 3-for-5 with an RBI, while Tres Gonzalez tallied is seventh multi-hit game in his last eight with two hits. Colin Hall and Jackson Finley also chipped in triples on the night.
On the mound, the Jackets were excellent, holding the Owls (12-7) to just seven hits. LHP Dalton Smith (2-0) went the first 3.1 innings, surrendering just a run while scattering three hits. RHP Logan McGuire then pitched a one-hit 2.2 innings to follow before RHP Aeden Finateri pitched 2.0 innings with four strikeouts. RHP Cort Roedig then closed the final inning.
Kennesaw was led at the plate by Josh Hatcher when had an RBI double on the night. Starter RHP Smith Pinson had a solid three-inning opening, before LHP Luke Cooper (0-2) received the loss, allowing two runs on four hits in 1.0 innings.
Georgia Tech will now host Kennesaw State on Wednesday, March 23 at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network and WREK 91.1 FM.
