Georgia Tech Head Coach Danny Hall
“We’re very happy to get the win. Coming in, I knew Furman was a very good No. 4 seed. I knew they had excellent pitching, and you saw evidence of that today. In particular, they were able to pitch out of some trouble. On our end, we were one hit away several times from maybe breaking the game open, but we didn’t get that done. Tim Gustafson was outstanding. He came in and really settled the game for us. I was glad to see Jeff Kindel come up with a guy in scoring position in the last inning. He had a great at-bat and came up with a huge hit to keep us in the winner’s bracket. I’m very happy and proud of my team for hanging in there and finding a way to win.

OF Jeff Kindel
“I was trying to look for a pitch up and hit it hard somewhere. When I got 2-0, I tried to swing really hard. After that, I tried to zone in and get a pitch a little in or little up that I could drive. [the pitch he hit was] A changeup, a little in.

P Tim Gustafson
“I know if I can get through the inning, then I can watch our guys score runs and my favorite player (Kindel) can get a clutch hit and win the game for us. My job is to get us back in to hit, and then the fun starts.

Furman Head Coach Ron Smith comments:
“I am obviously disappointed that we got beat. Thought we competed pretty well through out the ball game. I thought the three run third was a tough one, we didn’t make a play at first and it led to three runs and that obviously hurt us a lot. I thought the bullpen did a very good job, we competed real well, and I thought that Georgia Tech pitched well. I thought we pitched out of some tough situations. I think they left 12 on base and overall our bullpen did a good job. I would like to see us swing the bat with a little more patience.”

CASSEDY PLAY AT FIRST IN SECOND INNING
“I’m not going to go into that. It was the call that was made and that’s baseball. Yeah, the umpire said he missed the base and you have to go with it. That was the call, regardless of what happened it’s not going to change. Let’s play.”

“We would take pride in beating them. I thought we competed very well, they are a very outstanding team. Look at their statistics, every guy that goes up there is capable of driving in runs. I just wanted to compete, I wanted them to beat us. I didn’t want to give it to them and I don’t think that we did.”

ON PLAYING MICHIGAN TOMORROW
“Well, we are not going up to Ann Arbor, not playing their football team so they can put nine guys on the field just like we can. They have 80,000 people at their school and we have 2500 people and I think we will have more fans out here than they will. We are looking forward to playing them, it is a great opportunity for our players and us to compete and we like it and i think our players enjoy it. If you don’t have fun with this situation, your not to play.”

“I thought Ryan (Hodinka) competed very well. He pitched strikes and especially after taking one off his foot we told him he needed to charge that ball next time. I thought he competed very well.”
