CARY, N.C. – Georgia Tech baseball sophomore Kevin Parada (Pasadena, Calif./Loyola) continues to be lauded as one of college baseball’s top catchers, getting named to the Golden Spikes Award’s midseason watch list, it was announced Tuesday.
The Golden Spikes Award is one of college baseball’s highest honors and is given annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country. He is the eighth selection for the Yellow Jackets since 2013 and his selection marks the fifth-straight year Georgia Tech has boasted a catcher on the midseason list.
In 29 games this season, the Pasadena, Calif. native is hitting a red-hot .374 at the plate. He ranks eighth nationally with 40 RBI on the year, as well as 15th in hits (46), 16th in home runs (11), 13th in runs (37) and 12th in total bases (85).
Parada is currently slugging .691 on the season with an on-base percentage of .476, having drawn 19 walks and struck out just 14 times in a team-leading 123 at-bats.
The Yellow Jackets return home for five-straight games. First up at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium will be USC Upstate on Tuesday, April 5. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.
