THE FLATS – Sophomore catcher Kevin Parada (Pasadena, Calif./Loyola) earned National Player of the Week honors from Collegiate Baseball on Monday after a stellar week that included No. 10-ranked Georgia Tech going 4-1.
Parada was red-hot at the plate in the five games last week, hitting .571 with 12 hits, four doubles and five home runs for a gaudy 17 RBI. He slugged 1.476 and struck out just twice over 21 at-bats for a .591 on-base percentage. He also stole two bases as part of the Yellow Jackets’ 14 on the week.
On Saturday, Feb. 26 alone in the doubleheader vs. Gardner-Webb, Parada had seven hits, 10 RBI, three doubles and two home runs, scoring five times as well. In Game 1 of the doubleheader, the California native went 4-for-4 and was a triple shy of the cycle.
On the season, the preseason all-American has been part of Georgia Tech’s nationally regarded offense as the team is hitting .361. Parada is one of five Jackets hitting above .400 on the year, currently at .485 with 16 hits.
Georgia Tech looks to remain hot as it travels to crosstown foe Georgia State on Tuesday, March 1 (5 p.m.) before Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate kicks off this weekend.
The Jackets will host Georgia on Friday, March 4 at 6 p.m. before traveling to Athens on Saturday at 2 p.m. The series then concludes as part of the Spring Classic on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Coolray Field, home of the Gwinnett Stripers.
