THE FLATS – Georgia Tech baseball sophomore catcher Kevin Parada (Pasadena, Calif./Loyola) was named Collegiate Baseball’s National Player of the Week as well as the ACC’s Player of the Week after a blistering week at the plate, it was announced Monday.
Helping the Yellow Jackets go 3-1 on the week, including defeating No. 13 Florida State, Parada hit a gaudy .500 and slugged 1.333 as he recorded nine hits, a double, a triple and four home runs for 10 RBI overall. Striking out just twice on 18 at-bats, the sophomore catcher recorded a .474 on-base percentage.
Even in just the three-game series against the Seminoles’ nationally regarded pitching staff, Parada hit .500 for seven hits and three home runs, slugging 1.286 and reaching base at a .467 clip.
On the season, the Pasadena, California native is having an outstanding sophomore campaign. Currently, Parada is the nation’s co-leader in home runs at 15 and nation’s sole leader in total bases at 109, while also ranking fourth in RBI (50), sixth in hits (55) and runs (44) and 22nd in slugging percentage (.773).
Parada and the Yellow Jackets complete their five-game homestand on Tuesday, April 12 against crosstown foe Georgia State. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.
