Outdoor Track and Field Reveals 2018 Schedule

Jan. 5, 2018

THE FLATS – Highlighted by two home meets, including the season-opening Yellow Jacket Invitational on March 16-17, Georgia Tech outdoor track and field announced its full 2018 schedule on Friday.

The Jackets will also host the Georgia Tech Invitational on April 20-21 as part of their nine regular-season meets before championship season begins in May.

“Our 2018 outdoor schedule will provide our team members with great opportunities to perform at a high level,” head men’s track and field coach Grover Hinsdale said. “Our goal each year is to get our teams at excellent facilities with excellent competition and we have accomplished that again in 2018. As always, we are very excited about our two home meets on March 16-17 and April 20-21 at the one and only Griffin Track.”

“We’ve got an outstanding spring semester of competition ahead of us and we’re anxious to get started. From the early indoor season in January through the end of the outdoor season in June, we’ll line up and challenge our team to compete at the highest level of NCAA track and field,” head women’s track and field coach Alan Drosky said. “We’re fortunate that we don’t have to travel far to find great competition, outstanding facilities and perfect weather. So we’ll compete often in the southeast, but will also add some great opportunities outside the region. All in all, I’m excited about watching our team rise to the occasion and have a fantastic season.”

After opening the season at home, Tech hits the road down to Tallahassee for the Florida State Relays (March 23). That trip is followed up by the second of three relays on the year at the Florida Relays in Gainesville on March 29-31.

Georgia Tech then heads to the annual Spec Towns Invitational at UGA (April 7) before traveling to Auburn for the Tiger Track Classic on April 13-14. Rounding out the month of April is the Penn Relays and the North Florida Invitational on April 26-28 before the regular season is finished up on May 5 at the Torrin Lawrence Invite.

Championship season launches at the ACC Championships in Miami, Fla., on May 10-12. The NCAA East Preliminary Round begins May 24 and runs to the 28 in Tampa, Fla., before NCAA Outdoor Championships kick off in Oregon (June 6-9).

Both teams return a host of veteran talent for the indoor season, includingKsenia Novikova in pole vault and both Kenya Collins and Jeanine Williams in hurdles for the women as well as Avery Bartlett in distance and Will Solomon in the triple jump for the men.
