Box Score (.pdf)

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech baseball was held to just five hits, which wouldn’t be enough to overcome a big fourth inning against No. 13 North Carolina, falling 8-1 on Thursday night at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (18-12, 6-7 ACC) scored first on the day after Kristian Campbell drove in John Giesler in the third inning, but the 13th-ranked Tar Heels (21-9, 7-4 ACC) were able to counter with six runs in the fourth that ultimately would put the game out of reach.

At the plate, Tech’s five hits came from five players – Campbell, Jake DeLeo, Jackson Finley (a double), Giesler and Jadyn Jackson.

On the mound, RHP Dawson Brown (1-2) made his return, put would be tagged for the six runs in the fourth on four hits and had his night end after 3.2 innings of work. Freshman RHP Demitri Diamant allowed just one run over the next 2.1 innings with three strikeouts before LHP Dalton Smith was terrific to close with a career-high seven strikeouts in 3.0 innings, surrendering just one run on three hits.

UNC was led by Tomas Frick, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI. RHP Max Carlson (2-1) went 7.0 innings with just the one run against five hits with eight strikeouts.

Georgia Tech and North Carolina will finish the series on Friday, April 7 due to inclement weather in the forecast for Saturday. Game 1 of the doubleheader will begin at 11 a.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
