No. 5 Women’s Tennis Heads to Northwestern

THE FLATS – Winners of five-straight matches, the No. 5 Georgia Tech women’s tennis team takes a break from conference play to head to No. 8 Northwestern for a top-10 matchup on Friday. First serve is slated for 3:30 p.m. at the Combe Tennis Center.

THE SCENE: The Jackets went unblemished in last weekend’s competitions, defeating Virginia and Louisville at home to improve to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in ACC play. Tech has won five matches straight and will play only its second true road match of the season on Friday, facing 8th-ranked Northwestern.

Northwestern enters Friday’s match also winners of five-straight as the Wildcats boast an 8-3 overall record to go along with a 2-0 Big Ten mark. The Wildcats moved up six spots in the latest ITA rankings, jumping to No. 8 in the national polls. Additionally, Northwestern boasts the top-ranked doubles team in the country in Erin Larner and Maddie Lipp. The duo has gone 18-2 overall this season and are 7-1 in dual play from the No. 1 spot.

Tech swept Northwestern in Atlanta last season, 7-0.

ITA RANKINGS: Georgia Tech moved to No. 5 in the country in this week’s ITA rankings. Tech’s doubles team of Ida Jarlskog and Johnnise Renaud jumped into the national rankings, coming in at No. 62. Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones remained at No. 4. Northwestern boasts three nationally-ranked singles players and three nationally-ranked doubles pairs. Below are the individual rankings:
