No. 5 Baseball Hosts East Tennessee State on Tuesday

ATLANTA – The fifth-ranked Georgia Tech baseball team continues its five-game homestand when the Yellow Jackets host East Tennessee State on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the new Russ Chandler Stadium.

Ticket prices are $10 for reserved chairback seating, $4 for adult general admission and $2 for youth general admission. Tickets are available by calling (888) TECH-TIX or at the stadium box office.

Georgia Tech is off to a 9-1 start to the 2002 campaign following a 12-5 win over city-rival Georgia State on Sunday afternoon. East Tennessee State enters the game with a 5-4 overall record after winning two of three games against Indiana last weekend. The Yellow Jackets will send junior right hander Jeff Watchko (2-1, 3.38 ERA) to the mound, who will be opposed by Buccaneers’ righty Matt Hensley (0-0, 4.50).

Tech is led offensively by a trio of freshmen who stand atop the team in terms of batting average. Center fielder Brandon Boggs leads the club with a .452 average, while second baseman Eric Patterson (.424) and first baseman Clifton Remole (.400) are both above the .400 mark. Junior outfielder Jason Perry leads the Yellow Jackets in home runs (4) and RBI (16). Tech is batting .329 as a team and averaging better than 10 runs per game.

The Yellow Jacket pitching staff currently leads the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 2.40 team ERA. Tech pitchers are limiting opponents to just a .207 batting average.

Following Tuesday afternoon’s contest, Tech will host Winthrop for a three-game weekend series beginning on Friday at 4 p.m. at Russ Chandler Stadium.
