No. 22/18 Jackets Host South Carolina

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis hosts South Carolina on Sunday for a noon showdown at Ken Byers Tennis Complex. The No. 22/18 Jackets come in with a 4-2 record.

Setting the Scene: The Yellow Jackets hope to hand the Gamecocks their first loss of the season. South Carolina comes to The Flats with an 8-0 record with wins over NC State and Georgia State. The Gamecocks bring in three ranked singles players in No. 107 Thomas Mayronne, No. 110 Yancy Dennis and No. 121 Gabriel Friedrich. South Carolina is receiving votes in both the ITA and USTA polls.

Singles Update: Junior Christopher Eubanks reached a career-high ranking of fourth nationally in the latest ITA poll. The 6-foot-7, All-American carries a 3-1 record playing at the number one position for the Jackets. Sophomore Andrew Li returns for his first match after playing for his native Hong Kong in the Davis Cup. Senior Cole Fiegel looks to remain undefeated on the season, playing primarily at the sixth spot.

Doubles Update: Freshman Carlos Divar and senior Carlos Benito entered the doubles rankings at No. 55 in the latest poll. Fiegel is 6-0 in doubles play, teaming up with both Li and Daniel Yun in the three spot.

Head coach Kenny Thorne says: “We have another tough SEC match with South Carolina who has a solid team again this year. We have already played a very competitive schedule this season so we just need to continue to improve. We will be ready for a tough fight and hopefully we’ll have some good Georgia Tech fan support. It should be some good tennis.”
