THE FLATS — Honoring seniors Carlos Benito and Cole Fiegel with a prematch ceremony, No. 20 Georgia Tech men’s tennis (16-6, 8-4 ACC) closed out the regular season with a 5-2 win over North Carolina State (13-14, 4-8) on Sunday afternoon. Next the Jackets head into the ACC tournament in Rome, Ga. April 26-30 as the No. 4 seed.

Singles Update: Freshman Carlos Divar evened the score at 1-1 after the Jackets dropped the doubles point with a quick 6-1, 6-3 rout of Georgiy Malyshev at the three position. On his senior day, Cole Fiegel took down Michael Ogden, 6-2, 6-4 on court six to give Tech the lead at 2-1. Junior Christopher Eubanks topped No. 119 Alexis Galarneau, 6-2, 7-6 (5) to push the lead to 3-1. Carlos Benito, on his senior day, clinched the match for the Jackets with a 6-1, 6-4 win over No. 76 Nick Horton on court two, sealing the win at 4-1. Chris Yun quickly followed bringing to score to 5-1 with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Ivan Saveljic. Igor Saveljic topped Daniel Yun, 7-5, 6-3, on court four to close out the match at 5-2.

Doubles Update: The Wolfpack took the doubles point to gain the first lead of the match. No. 48 Galarneau and Ogden topped No. 69 Eubanks and Benito on court one, 6-3. Elijah Melendez and Daniel Yun fell to Igor and Ivan Saveljic, 6-3, to seal the doubles point for the Wolfpack.

Head coach Kenny Thorne says: “Unfortunately we didn’t play the doubles I was hoping for but I love how we responded in singles. We came out on five of the six courts and took the first set. I think it was really cool to see how Cole finished his match out as a senior and then Carlos [Benito] got to clinch on senior day. It’s a special thing. Congrats to these guys, they’ve worked hard all season and they deserve the win. Now we’ll get ready for the tournament.”
