ATLANTA – The 20th-ranked Georgia Tech softball team (46-13, 11-6) will wrap-up the regular season this weekend in Charlottesville, Va., in an Atlantic Coast Conference battle with Virginia (17-34, 1-17 ACC) on Friday and Saturday, April 27-28. The doubleheader on Friday will be at 3 p.m., and a single game at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
All Tech games can be followed via live stats on www.ramblinwreck.com.
The Yellow Jackets are riding a 12-game winning streak heading into this weekend, one shy of the school record of 13 straight set twice, during the 1992 and 2005 seasons.
Tech currently trails the all-time series with the Cavaliers, 31-18, but has won seven of the last 10 games. The Jackets ended UVa’s season a year ago, with an 11-2 (5 innings) victory, at the ACC Tournament in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Rambling Wreck has never won an ACC series from Virginia in Charlottesville.
The Jackets continue to use the long ball to defeat its opponents. Tech has an ACC record 78 home runs this year, second best in the nation. The Jackets also have five players with 45-plus RBIs, including juniors Savannah Brown (63) and Brittany Barnes (61), senior Caitlin Lever (54), and sophomores Whitney Haller (53) and Jennifer Yee (48).
The Jackets will be seeking their fourth consecutive ACC series win, and fifth on the season. Tech dropped conference series to ACC leading Virginia Tech, and North Carolina, and defeated NC State, Florida State, Maryland and Boston College.
Leading the Cavaliers is freshman standout Kelly Haller. The leading Rookie of the Year candidate in the ACC has smashed 10 home runs, and is batting .415, with a team-leading 10 doubles and 44 RBIs.
