No. 10 Jackets Downed By Ohio State To Even Series

ATLANTA – Ohio State jumped out to an early lead and held on to beat No. 10 Georgia Tech, 7-3, Saturday afternoon to even the series at Russ Chandler Stadium. Mott Hyde doubled and drove in a run for the Yellow Jackets, who snapped a five-game winning streak.

The Buckeyes pounced on Tech (5-2) early, and for the second-straight game, opened the scoring with a solo home run. Friday it was Josh Dezse. Saturday, Tim Wetzel went yard in the first inning and Ohio State (3-2) did not trail again.

Zane Evans delivered an RBI single for the Yellow Jackets in the third inning, which cut the margin to 3-1, but the visitors came right back with three more in the top of the fourth. Hyde’s RBI double made it 6-2 in the sixth and Daniel Palka added a run-scoring single in the seventh inning to cap the scoring.

OSU starter Brian King pitched five innings, and scattered three hits and one run with four walks and four strikeouts, to pick up his second win (2-0). Jaron Long fired the final four innings to record his first save.

Tech’s Matthew Grimes was hung the loss (1-1), yielding three runs and three hits over two innings. Four different relievers saw action for the Yellow Jackets.

Wetzel was 4-for-5 and David Corna also homered for the Buckeyes.

The two teams meet in the rubber match Sunday at 1 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear white, as every Sunday is “White Out Sunday” at Russ Chandler Stadium.
