THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s Daniel Miller has been named to the Atlantic Coast Conference’s All-Defensive team, voted on by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.
The ACSMA group announced the media all-conference teams Monday, along with the All-Freshman team and the All-Defensive team. No Tech players made the other two teams.
A 6-11 ½ junior from Loganville, Ga., Miller has anchored a strong Tech defensive effort this season in which the Yellow Jackets posted a winning regular-season record (16-14) after going 11-20 a year ago. The Yellow Jackets rank 54th nationally in scoring defense, 35th in field goal percentage defense and 48th in three-point defense (as of March 7), while also ranking fourth, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the ACC in those categories.
Miller, who leads the ACC in blocked shots at 2.1 per game and ranks 12th in rebounding at 6.7 per game, appeared on 36 of the 77 ballots cast, second to Miami’s Shane Larkin (46 of 77). Also named to the team were the Hurricanes’ Durand Scott, Maryland’s Alex Len and Virginia’s Jontel Harris.
Miller has shined in conference play this year, averaging 9.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while hitting 54.3 percent of his field goals and 79.5 percent of his free throws. His rebound average against ACC teams ranks eighth in the league.
The ACC coaches’ all-conference teams and awards will be announced next week.
