ATLANTA (April 8) — Sophomore Troy Matteson shot a course-record eight-under par 64 on Saturday (4/8) to propel top-ranked Georgia Tech into the lead through 36 holes at the Compaq U.S. Collegiate Golf Championships at Eldorado Golf Course in Los Cabos, Mexico.
Matteson’s career-best 64, places him tied for sixth in the individual competition with a two-round total of 139, five-under par.
The Jackets, who entered Saturday’s second round fourteen shots out of the lead, posted the best team score of the day, with a 13-under par total of 275. Tech stands one shot ahead of 17th-ranked Florida, the first round leader.
Matt Weibring carded a three-under par 69 on Saturday and is in a ninth-place tie through two rounds. Fellow Yellow Jacket Bryce Molder posted a one-under 71, and is amongst the nine golfers in the ninth-place tie at two-under par.
Seniors Matt Kuchar and Carlton Forrester are tied for 23rd place through two rounds, as Kuchar posted a score of one-under 71 on Saturday, while Forrester posted a one-over par 73.
The final round will conclude on the 7,028 yard-par 72 golf course on Sunday. Tape-delayed action can be seen on ESPN2 from 2-4 p.m.
