Lee Hyde Signs To Play Baseball at Georgia Tech

April 17, 2003

ATLANTA – Fayette County High School standout pitcher and designated hitter Lee Hyde has signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball at Georgia Tech, head coach Danny Hall announced.

The 6-2, 185 pound Hyde earned first team all-region and all Fayette-Coweta honors as a junior when he led the region with 13 home runs and hit .410 with 38 RBI. He posted a 7-2 record and a 1.81 ERA as a left-handed pitcher.

“Lee Hyde is a guy that is going to be a great prospect for us as a two-way guy,” said Hall. “He has an outstanding arm as a left handed pitcher. I saw him early last summer, and he has continued to get better and better. He can also hit, and we feel like he is a guy that can help us both ways.”

Thus far in 2003, Hyde is 5-1 with a 0.40 ERA while tossing two no hitters and four shutouts. He has 56 strikeouts and just five walks in 31 innings, while also batting .516 as a designated hitter.

Hyde’s signing raises the total number to 11 high school prospects that have signed NLI’s to attend Georgia Tech next fall.

“We have added some pitching and we have added some position players that can come in and help us,” said Hall. “Some of them will be asked to come in and contribute right away, and others will push some of our returning guys for spots. I think that it is a good class, and I think on paper it’s a class that we have a chance to get most of the guys here in school in August.”
